In the summer of 2023, I did videography for Faith Evangelical Free Church’s Vacation Bible School event. This five day event consisted of planned activities for younger kids, which I was to document. It was unpaid, but a very good experience for me to learn how to put together a video with a lot of footage in a short deadline.
My role as videographer and editor was to capture the different events occurring and present a recap video that would play during the main service. I shot a lot of the footage in slow mo since many of the activities were outside games, and grabbed some drone footage as well. I stuck to handheld and ended up getting a lot of creative shots because of the flexibility. The biggest thing I practiced was invisibility; in order to get good reactions and emotions from the kids, I had to be inconspicuous.
The edit was due at the end of the weekend, which meant I had about one and a half days to piece the video together. With hours of footage, this was not easy, but I planned transitions as I recorded, so I was confident in my editing possibilities. The video played that Sunday with no hiccups.
