Behind the scenes.

Made in the summer of 2022, Riding Rebel is an action short about a motorcycle rider. It follows the story of a young man and his love for his bike. It focuses on the visual side of storytelling with no dialogue, instead capturing the excitement of riding through wide drone shots.

I created this video with the intention of practicing with my drone, as well as experimenting with an action short. I prepared by planning expository shots that would bring character to the bike and make it stand out. I also thought through drone shots that ended up being trickier to execute then expected, due to low hanging trees. My actor, Erik Albertus, was excited to be on camera and was easy to work with. I shot a lot of it in sequence, without much coverage, making the edit quicker but with fewer options, something I would do differently in the future.

Action shorts have always been a favorite of mine, and I really enjoy telling a story without any dialogue. Visuals should be able to carry a viewer through the film, and I believe Riding Rebel does that.
