In the fall of 2021, I took the Communication Arts 155 class, which was an introduction to digital media production. This class consisted of several projects to learn different media types. The final project was a short film, which I made with two other crew members, Taryn Cornell and Autumn Payette.
Christmas Mourning explores the difficulty of going through a holiday season after losing a loved one. It uses visual effects to convey the idea of seeing someone you thought you lost. After living through a pandemic, the theme was very prominent.
My role in the film was a bit of everything. I came up with the main idea, and we bounced ideas around throughout the writing process. When production began, I co-starred in the film, as well as helping with direction and camera work. We experimented with a lot of matching shots, which added to the overall effect of loss in the film. Since I knew how to do the VFX necessary for the project, I took the lead in the editing process. The final film ended up getting positive feedback from the class and the instructors.
